MOT Check UK

Privacy policy

The short version: this site has no accounts, stores no registrations in any database, and loads no analytics unless you press Allow. The long version follows, and all of it is true rather than boilerplate.

Who runs this site

MOT Check UK is a trading name of Jagat IT UK Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 17474995. Registered office: 164 High Street, London Colney, St Albans, Hertfordshire, AL2 1QF. For anything on this page, email support@jagatitlimited.com and a person will read it.

Registrations you look up

When you check a vehicle, the registration is sent to the DVSA MOT History API to fetch the record, and the response is cached in server memory for a few hours so repeated searches do not hit the DVSA quota. That cache clears when the server restarts. Registrations are never written to a database, never linked to you, and never sent to any analytics service.

What stays in your own browser

Your recent searches and your analytics choice are kept in your browser’s local storage, on your device only. They never reach our server. The Clear button under the search box removes recent searches; clearing site data in your browser removes everything.

Analytics, only if you allow it

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are useful. It loads only after you press Allow on the banner, in line with UK PECR. If you press No thanks, nothing loads and we remember the choice. Page views are sent with the registration stripped from the address, so what you looked up is not part of what Google receives. IP anonymisation is on. There are no advertising cookies on this site.

Server logs

Like every website, the server keeps standard short-lived access logs (IP address, path requested, time) used for rate limiting and abuse prevention, and for nothing else.

Calendar reminders

The MOT reminder file is generated at the moment you click and handed to your device. We keep no copy and take no email address.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask what personal data we hold about you (normally: none, unless you have emailed us), ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Email the address above and it will be handled directly.

If a paid vehicle history product launches on this site, this policy will be updated before it takes a single payment, because that product would involve licensed third-party data and payment processing that the free site does not.
