What to compare, and what to ignore
Two cars of the same age and price can have very different histories. The things that genuinely separate them are the mileage trail, how often they failed, and whether the same fault keeps reappearing.
Pass rate against the national 78.3% tells you how the vehicle has been maintained. Average annual mileage tells you what kind of life it has had. Dangerous defects tell you whether it has been run until something broke. Recurring themes tell you about the owner.
What to ignore: a single advisory, a one off failure on a bulb, and the total mileage on its own without the shape of how it accumulated.
